Kappa Delta places high emphasis on philanthropic involvement. We recognize that we have been given much in our lives, and therefore we feel that it is only appropriate to encourage one another to do service in the community, on campus, or with other campus organizations.
National Kappa Delta clearly places a large emphasis on Philanthropy, as it has the most philanthropies of any of the National Panhellenic Sororities. Those Philanthropies are:
The following are just a few of the ways in which we serve our national and local philanthropies.
- Shamrock N’ Run 5K & Go Green Dinner - This is by far our most involved philanthropy benefitting Prevent Child Abuse America. We make a weekend of the event, complete with a fun filled 5K , a dinner the night before. This year we had a Go Green dinner, the first greek Green certified event. This year we managed to raise over $54,000 dollars, 20% of which went to the national PCAA and the 80% stayed local, going to the Durham Center for Child and Family Health in Durham, a chapter of PCAA.
- Girls Scouts – From pumpkin carving in October to selling cookies in the spring, the Girls Scouts are a staple at 219 East Franklin Street. We love the opportunity not only to spend time with some fun, cute little girls, but also to act as mentors in their lives. We are ever improving this area of our philanthropy, not just due to its dynamic nature, but because it has potential to make such a large impact on the lives of these young women.
- Chi Phi/ Kappa Delta Crawfish Broil - This year, we held the second annual Crawfish Broil, a fall Philanthropy event to benefit the Richmond Chidren’s Hospital. Chi Phi Fraternity co-sponsored the event, which raised money for the Richmond Children’s Hospital, UNC Dance Marathon (NC Children’s Hospital), and the SECU Family House (we are estimating that $1500-2000 will go to Richmond Children’s Hospital).
- Big Buddy Picnic - We teamed up with Chi Psi fraternity and the UNC Campus Y’s “Big Buddy” Program for the annual Ice Cream picnic. Kappa Delta sisters enjoyed Ice Cream Sundays and played games like kickball and tag with young children in the community and their “big buddies.”
