My name is Lauren Bristol and I am Vice President-Membership (Recruitment Chair) of Kappa Delta sorority here at Carolina. I would like to share a bit about my personal experience with recruitment and being part of a sorority.
Let’s be honest, recruitment is a little overwhelming at first. It’s a totally foreign process and it seems superficial at times. So, you might ask, why do it? When I went through recruitment, I initially had these same thoughts, but I was pleasantly surprised. The girls at every house were friendly, genuine and eager to get to know me. I actually enjoyed recruitment—something I definitely did not expect. Although it may seem intimidating at first, it plays a crucial role in deciding the best sorority for you. Had I somehow been able to skip recruitment and blindly choose a sorority, it would have been impossible for me to pick the perfect one for me.
During recruitment, I came to realize that Kappa Delta was the right choice. I could not have found a better “home away from home” at Carolina. The support base and friendships I have made here are incredible. Kappa Delta has also served as an outlet for getting involved both in the local community and our national philanthropies. From spending time with local Girl Scouts to hosting a one thousand-runner “Shamrock ‘N Run” 5K race every year, Kappa Delta has provided me with a fulfilling philanthropic experience. Last but most certainly not least, Kappa Delta’s social functions are just fabulous. A couple of my favorites include our Tacky Christmas and Kentucky Derby parties.
At the end of the day, I could not be more thankful for my experience in Kappa Delta. The friendships, opportunities and memories here are truly irreplaceable. I encourage everyone to go through recruitment. Even if you try it out and decide it’s not for you, you are not required to pledge a sorority.
